Welcome to Westminster Presbyterian Church! We are delighted that you have chosen to visit us.

Whether you are already a part of our family or coming through our doors for the very first time, you’ll find a place for learning, celebration, and encouragement. Even if you are only visiting Charleston and looking for a place to worship for one Sunday, Westminster Presbyterian is a place for you, and we welcome you. Since 1823, we have been here for individuals, families, students, and children at every age and stage in life. Westminster Presbyterian is always serving one purpose: to help people come to know and experience Jesus Christ, His love, and His ways.

Please take the opportunity to look around our web site for more information about our worship, Christian education, fellowship activities, and missions. If you have questions, please contact us or call the church office to speak with the pastor or staff.

First Time Visitor Frequently Asked Questions

What time is worship?
On Sunday mornings, we gather for worship at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

What is a WPC worship service like?
Worship at Westminster Presbyterian is in the Reformed Tradition, centered around God’s Word.  Our 11:00 worship service is traditional, with liturgy, organ, and choir.  The 9:00 service is a bit less formal than the 11:00 service.  Each of our services includes reading of Scripture, preaching, prayer, confession, praise, and music, including hymns sung by the congregation and other instrumental music. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of every month. Worship is warm and friendly and usually lasts about an hour.

What should I wear?
Whatever you like, but you’ll find a range at WPC from casual to “Sunday best.”

Is there Christian Education or Sunday School?
WPC offers Sunday School for all ages from 10:00-10:45 a.m. each week. Whatever your age and interests, we have a place for you.

What about children?
Children are welcome in all worship services, and we also offer nursery care for infants – 2 year olds during worship. You can rest easy, our caregivers are professional, and we’ll take down your number in case your child has a need only you can meet.

Preschool children 5 and under usually participate in the first part of the 11:00 worship service and leave after the Children’s Time for Children’s Church. We do not discourage children (even squirmy ones!) from participating in worship with their families.

For young children, we offer worship activity bags at the entrance to the sanctuary.

What about parking?
There are multiple parking spaces around the church, but look for the ones up close labeled “Visitor Parking.”

People with special needs
There are multiple handicap parking spaces. There is only one entrance to the sanctuary with steps; all others are wheelchair accessible, and there are several spaces in the sanctuary for those who need to stay in their wheelchair during the service. Audio receivers and large print hymnals are available from the ushers each Sunday.

How do I learn more about Westminster?
Every Sunday, you’ll find friendly greeters and a friendly face at the Visitor Table in the lobby of the sanctuary. They can answer any questions you have.
