Sunday School
Our children are divided into age appropriate classes and are greeted and led by loving, trained teachers. The teachers, music leaders and assistants communicate Christ’s love to each child through music, crafts, and Bible stories. For more details: Christian Education
Acolytes
Jesus said, “you are the light of the world.” The children of WPC assist in all worship services by bearing the light of Christ into the sanctuary and out into the world. In the fall of each year, children who are entering the third grade receive training to serve as acolytes.
Children’s Sermon
At the Sunday worship services, children are given a special opportunity to gather on the chancel steps and hear a sermon that is designed especially for them.
Worship Bags
At Westminster, we understand that little hands and minds might need extra assistance during worship. In the narthex/vestibule parents and children will find “Worship Bags” filled with crayons, books, and papers designed to assist children, as well as parents, in enjoying the worship service.
Children’s Church
While children are welcome in all of the worship services at Westminster, we realize that sitting through an entire worship service can be challenging for our youngest friends, not to mention their parents! Each week following the Children’s Sermon, children 3 years of age through kindergarten are invited to attend Children’s Church. They play games, enjoy arts and crafts, and hear Bible stories.
Worship Preparation
1st Graders and their parents are invited to attend Worship Preparation Classes beginning each fall during the Children’s Church time. Here children learn about the seasons of the church year, the elements of a worship service, and the sacraments of Baptism and The Lord’s Supper or Communion. Children who have received instruction are welcomed to the Lord’s Table for their first communion on World Communion Sunday – the first Sunday in October.
Nursery
Westminster is happy to provide a safe, loving enviroment for our youngest members and friends. Well-trained caregivers provide attention to infants and toddlers during worship, Sunday School, and other church events. Parents are given nursery pagers that vibrate if a child needs parental attention. All who work with children at Westminster have completed Child Protection Training and have passed a background check.
