Sabbatical Reflections III

I’m continuing to share with you some reflections from our sabbatical time. I appreciate the chance to be away, and I want to tell you some ways we used the time and the things I learned. Disclaimer: some thoughts may be more serious than others.

One of the blessings of sabbatical was being able to spend time with my family of origin. I have two brothers and a sister, and Dad and Mom raised us in the faith with a commitment to God, the church, and care for others. I often think of Psalm 145:4 (One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.) when I think of my family, and I hope Amy and I are passing on that same faith to our children.

I saw my brothers some- dove hunting on the farm with Edwin and going up to Bubba’s church in Summerville (my sister in law and my niece sing in the praise band), but the highlight was when Matthew (8) and I took a road trip (28 hours!) to St. Louis with Dad and Mom to visit my sister and her family. It was so fun! Jennifer and Craig have two daughters, and two of Matthew’s teenage cousins went with us, so there was plenty of bonding time we won’t soon forget.

God blessed me and Amy with faithful families, and we are so grateful. We didn’t do anything to deserve it (that’s grace!), but we can respond by seeking to share that faith with others around us.

Blest be the tie that binds,

Pastor Daniel
