On a normal Ash Wednesday worship service, you would be marked with an ashen cross as you hear the words, “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” It is a reminder of our mortality, how fragile life is, and our need of God’s grace to overcome the enemy of death. It is a solemn service with serious words.
Yet, given the last 11 months, it feels like we don’t need as much of a reminder about our own mortality and need for grace. Covid has made us aware, every day, of infections rates, death counts, and the fragility of life. As we lean into Lent in 2021, we are already mindful of the lessons of Ash Wednesday.
Maybe this year we need more Good News than Bad News.
Join us Wednesday at 6 p.m. (in the sanctuary or livestreamed) for a worship service that acknowledges our situation and declares the hope we have in Jesus. Elder (and Lay Pastor in Training) Priscilla Holtzclaw is preaching, and you’ll hear just the word you need for this season of life.
Yours in Christ,
