“Salvation belongs to the Lord!”
The affirmation is declared both by Jonah from the belly of the great fish (Jonah 2:9) and by the great multitude gathered around the throne of God in John’s vision of heaven. (Revelation 7:10)
When the great multitude declares it, they can see clearly: all the promises of God have been brought to fulfillment, and complete peace has replaced sadness and anxiety. However, when Jonah declares it, he cannot see if or how God will rescue him from his predicament.
All of us are somewhere between those two poles of full sight and blindness. We know the promises of God, but as far as we are concerned, they are not yet fully realized. Maybe one day we will stand with the multitude and see clearly, but for now, we’re still in some degree of darkness.
Here’s some Good News: Wherever you are today, the saying is true, “Salvation belongs to the Lord!” Whether you can see it or not, it is true. “Salvation belongs to the Lord!”
See you Sunday- we’ll pick up with Jonah in chapter 3.
