God answered our prayers for a wonderful week of Vacation Bible School.  The joy, enthusiasm, and teachable spirits of the children gathered was contagious, and planners, volunteers, children, and observers alike were blessed.

Several times during the week, those verses from Matthew 19 came to mind:

Then children were brought to Jesus that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

We at Westminster are so blessed, but even as I write, there are vulnerable children in Charleston and around the world.  In the name of Jesus, We are called to reach out to them.  Here are a few examples of things happening right now.

  • There is a strong Hands of Christ ministry gearing up at Westminster for school clothes and supplies distributions around the Lowcountry. www.handsofchrist.net
  • There is a team of youth leaving for Mobile, Alabama this week to share in Government Street Presbyterian’s urban mission outreach. gspcmobile.org/urban-mission-camps
  • A team of 11 WPC’ers leave July 11 for Guatemala, where we are partnered with the LaPatria Norte School.

Jesus was not ambiguous when it came to showing love and compassion for the most vulnerable.  So we pray and keep our eyes open to ways we can respond to the call.

In his hands,

What’s the WORD? Praise the LORD for a fabulous week of Vacation Bible School!
