This week in our study of The Lord’s Prayer, we come to the petition, “Give us this day our daily bread.” It’s simple but not simplistic; when Jesus taught us to pray this way, surely he had in mind multiple meanings. We’ll look at some of them on Sunday, but for now, consider this passage from Proverbs, which is a prayer known to Jesus and the ones who followed him.

Give me neither poverty nor riches,
but give me only my daily bread.
Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you
and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’
Or I may become poor and steal,
and so dishonor the name of my God.
(Proverbs 30:8-9)

This is no prayer for riches- it is a prayer that God would provide for us in just the right way. Just the right way that develops trust, knowledge of God, and a life committed to honoring his name.

Prayer: Lord, will you please provide for us in ways that build our character and shape our heart? That’s our prayer. Amen

See you Sunday,
