On the past two Sundays, we’ve seen Isaiah the prophet speak the Word of the Lord into a tough situation for the Children of Israel. Trouble is brewing on all fronts; enemies are knocking at the door, and former allies have turned away. It seems there is no hope.
Yet, Isaiah calls the people of God to see the light shining in the darkness. This week, we’ll read the beginning of chapter 12 where God’s people are called to JOY.
It seems impossible, doesn’t it? How on earth can anyone have JOY at a time like this? The darkness is too deep. The enemies are too many. The divide between God and us is too great.
There is still, according to Isaiah, room for JOY.

Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion,
for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel. (Isaiah 12:6)

As Christmas Day approaches, you may be having trouble getting into the spirit of the holidays. You’re not alone in those feelings! There is, however, a word for you, and I invite you to come hear it Sunday. Let Isaiah get you ready.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Daniel
