We like to watch HGTV’s Fixer Upper, a home renovation show hosted by Chip and Joanna Gaines.  They appear to be a neat couple- the way they work together on the home renovations.  They make it all look like fun!

I’m not sure what I expected over the weekend when we started a little renovation project at our home.  The tile floors in several rooms were breaking up, and we knew we needed to tear them out and re-tile.  Andrew and I got to work on it, and it was fun at first, but after a while it occurred to me that our little project was not like they show it on Fixer Upper.  It was hard.  We were tired.  So much for Reality TV.

Maybe it is a good analogy for life- what is real is not like they show on TV.  What your whole day is like is not like the one perfect picture your friend posts on Facebook.  Even me having the luxury to put down a new floor is the lifestyle of the world’s elite.  Reality for most of the world is very different.

So when REAL life hits, what then?  It is the Lord- the giver of life, the redeemer of life, and the sustainer of life who is present with us on the top of the mountain (like those posed FB moments) and in the darkness of the valley.  God is Real when life is Real.

May his peace be yours,

Pastor Daniel
