I decided to read through the entire Bible this year, and I’ve learned something about myself in the process. There are days I do my daily reading first thing in the morning, and there are days that my Bible reading app tells me that I’m three days behind! I wish it was not so easy to neglect something as foundational to Christian discipleship as daily Bible reading, but apparently for me, it is!
Then I came across these verses from the Psalms: a description of one who longs for and is thirsty for the living God.
As a deer pants for flowing streams,
so pants my soul for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God. Psalm 42:1-2
I have a hunch the one who is truly thirsty for the Lord does not easily forget about prayer time or Bible reading. So, I’ve started asking God to make me thirstier- to long for him and seek him out every day- just like a panting deer in search of water. I’m praying it for you, too!
