Is maintaining a rich and consistent prayer life difficult for you? It is for me, and I’m a “religious professional!” I was recently reminded of what Henri Nouwen said about prayer:
The trouble is, as soon as you sit and become quiet, you think, “Oh, I forgot this. I should call my friend. Later on I’m going to see him.” Your inner life is like a banana tree filled with monkeys jumping up and down.
How do we pray with all those monkeys? It’s a good question. In the next few weeks, there are a couple opportunities for you to take up or strengthen your prayer life.
- Praying in Color or Praying by Checklist. Sunday, February 26 @ 9:45. A special one-time Sunday School class, led by Pastor Daniel and Amy Smoak will teach two ways (a left-brain and a right-brain way) you can engage in prayer during each of the 40 Days of Lent and beyond. We meet in Covenant Hall.
- Monday Morning Prayer @ 11:40. Beginning on March 6 and continuing every Monday @ 11:40 during Lent, we’ll gather together in the Sanctuary for 20 minutes of community prayer and fellowship. You’ll be guided in a meditative style of prayer using Phyllis Tickle’s The Divine Hours: Prayers for Lent.
I hope you’ll join us in taking a step toward more and better prayer.
Yours in Christ,
