His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3

“We have a water leak” is not what I wanted to hear from my bride the other morning. Exploration and experimenting revealed the seal on the upstairs shower drain was the culprit. After cutting into a wall to gain access, I realized I didn’t have pliers big enough to disassemble the drain line. No problem. Andrew is delighted to accompany me to the home improvement store to look for the tool we need. Once we have the right tool, in this case a set of 4.25 inch channel lock pliers, the job becomes much easier. It is that way with most repairs around the house- once you have the right tool, the job is not as difficult.

Have you ever gone through a time when your life felt that way? The pressures are building up, the expectations are too high, and you have a creeping sense that while projecting confidence, you’re less than sure about what you’re doing? We all go through times like that: life is a “job,” and we don’t have the right tools to get it done.

It may feel that way, but here’s the encouraging promise God gives us in 2 Peter. He has given us everything we need. We have, by his divine power, everything we need for a godly life. Isn’t that a great promise? It means there is no situation in life for which we are not equipped. He’s given us the power of the resurrection and the presence of the Holy Spirit so that we are “more than conquerors” (Romans 8). For the things that matter the most, we are well gifted.

Give thanks today for what God has done for you in Christ. Through him, you have what you need.
Come and see what God is doing at Westminster!
